In 1980's Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, writer Joe Beam dreams of a world where the voices of Black men, especially those who are gay, are no longer silenced. Faced with the obstacles of maintaining a fledging literary career as well as finding love and belonging, Joe creates "In The Life: A Black Gay Anthology," the first-ever published collection of writings by Black gay men for Black gay men.
Inspired by the words and writings of Beam himself, the original screenplay by filmmaker Mikal Odom, "Joe Beam's Dream," seeks to shine light on this forgotten figure in literary history.
